About This DesignAs a young boy growing up in upstate New York (Catskills), catching bass in small creeks and ponds, catching trout with my hands behind the house, I never once imagined coming face to face with a Barracuda.
In the early 1990's I decided to move to Tampa, within the first month of moving here, I met one of my best friends Chuck Achinelli. Within three months Chuck had me fishing down in the Keys, a native of the Keys for years. It was the most exhilarating fishing experience in my life!
My first experience with a Barracuda goes like this:
Getting ready to leave the dock, fishing poles, bait, ice, drinks and good weather, this was going to be the perfect fishing day. Upon arriving on the first reef (Hawk's Channel), I came to realize I had made a rookie move. I forgot the bait at the dock. There were two things that we could do, go all the way back to the dock or jump in with our spear guns and snorkel gear and thump a couple of fish for bait. We decided to go spear fishing, which was my first time. I proceeded to follow Chuck in about 20 feet of water and watch him spear a couple of grunts, when he speared his first grunt, he pointed for me to turn around, and to my amazement there was a huge 'Cuda eyeballing me. Remember this was my first time Spear Fishing! After returning to the boat, Chuck cut the fish into pieces to use for bait and we began to fish.
Needless to say this was one of the best days of fishing I have ever had to this date! We caught a variety of snapper, grouper, barracuda, black-tip sharks, cero mackerel and much more (mixed bag). We wanted to do a Barracuda design for over a year now, but it just never came to us. After remembering my first Spear Fishing experience, it came to me one day looking through the yellow pages and noticing the attorney advertisements; Are you a Victim of? That is how I came up with Barry A Cuda, Attorney at Sea. Although this took me the shortest time to design, it is also one of my favorites. I hope you like it as much as we do.
